Maciej Gawinecki, Giacomo Cabri, Marcin Paprzycki & Maria Ganzha (2010), "WSCOLAB: Structured Collaborative Tagging for Web Service Matchmaking", In WEBIST 2010. [Abstract] [BibTeX] [URL]
Abstract: One of the key requirements for the success of Service Oriented Architecture is discoverability of Web services. Unfortunately, application of authoritatively defined taxonomies cannot cope with the volume of services published on the Web. Collaborative tagging claims to address this problem, but is impeded by the lack of structure to describe Web service functions and interfaces. In this paper we introduce structured collaborative tagging to improve Web service descriptions. Performance of the proposed technique obtained during the Cross-Evaluation track of the Semantic Service Selection 2009 contest is reported. Obtained results show that the proposed approach can be successfully used in both Web service tagging and querying.

Abstract: Utilization of software agents in e-commerce is a subject of a lot of interest. In our work we are developing a complete agent-based e-commerce system in which agents play all major roles representing both buyers and sellers. The aim of the paper is to describe flow and usage of information in a virtual e-shop operating within the proposed e-commerce system.

Abstract: In this paper we consider the adaptability in an agent-based Virtual Organisation (VO). After introducing the system and the need for adaptive behaviours, human resource adaptability in particular, we discuss how the goal of 'agent adaptation' can be implemented. Specifically, we propose how agent behaviours can be added into/removed from/replaced in an agent skeleton, and, in this way, agent functionality modified.

Abstract: Recently it was suggested that (mobile) software agents can provide an infrastructure for resource brokering and management in Grids. In this paper we introduce a novel approach based on agent teams. Since the yellow pages-based approach was selected to facilitate resource discovery, we summarize results of our experiments to find an efficient ways of implementing yellow page service in an agent-based system. We also discuss how agents can find a team that will execute their job.

Abstract: In our work we are designing agent based support for workers in a virtual organization. In the system under development, all resources are to be ontologically demarcated and utilized through semantically- driven information processing techniques. This paper contains preliminary considerations concerning resource profiling and ontological matching methods which we intend to utilize within the system. Two applications that we are currently developing are used to illustrate the proposed approach.

Abstract: Blackboard is a classic abstraction for exchanging information in distributed environments. Once an entity puts a data element on the blackboard, information about this fact is either delivered to subscribers (push) or interested entities check for new data (pull). Another dimension of information exchange is method of access to the blackboard, which can be either direct, or mediated by a “blackboard-manager.” This article describes design and implementation of a blackboard used in to inform about status of agentbased price negotiations. Preliminary experimental results are also reported.

Abstract: Belief that a particular software engineering paradigm is universal for all domains is an illusion and agent-oriented engineering is not an exception. This we have learned during the development of an agent-based Travel Support System. The system was developed as a distributed environment to provide user with personalized content helping in travel planning. In this article we focus on these issues of our systems, where agents fit and give practical alternatives, where they do not. We believe that lessons learned in our project generalize to other project involving utilization of agent technology.

New York, NY, USA., pp. 1-8. ACM. [Abstract] [BibTeX] [DOI] [URL]
Abstract: In our work we have proposed an agent-based model e-commerce system. In this system buyer agents negotiate prices with seller agents. Thus far our attention was devoted "one sided" price negotiation mechanisms, i.e. mechanisms in which one side is active, while the other side is passive (possibly other than initiating the process). Examples of such negotiations are, among others, English and Dutch Auctions, as well as a number of sealed-bid auctions. Here, we focus our attention on auctions in which both sides take active part. We discuss how these auctions can be incorporated into our system and present their UML formalizations.

Abstract: The development of airlines' global distribution systems is in an interesting stage of evolution. Currently airline industry is defining new protocols that are to profit from utilization of the state-of-the-art technology such as agent systems. In the meantime we are developing an agent-based Travel Support System (TSS), with a goal of providing passengers with more personalized information in regard to the desired journey. Obviously, the TSS, to realize its goals must be able to communicate with various (airline) global distribution systems (GDS)s. In this paper we are presenting our initial attempt of utilizing new trends emerging in the airline industry while developing a communication channel between the TSS and GDSs.

Abstract: In our recent work we have established that to develop an extensible agent-based e-commerce system it is necessary to logically separate the negotiation process from other parts of the system. This note deals with the design of the “negotiation box”—the component that actually runs the negotiation processes. Furthermore, interaction of the negotiation box with the rest of the system is addressed.

Abstract: Trust plays an important role in any commercial system. It also has to be conceptualized for an e-commerce system in which all transactions are autonomously performed by software agents. In this paper we make the first attempt at specifying how trust will appear and be dealt with in our model system. In particular, we focus our attention on how the trust relationship between shops and buyers visiting them has been influenced by our specific e-commerce modeling and system design decisions.

Abstract: Recently, we have presented an initial implementation of a model agent-based e-commerce system, which utilized a simple price negotiation mechanism—English Auction. In this note we discuss how a Dutch Auction involving multiple units of a product can be included in our system. We present UML diagrams of agents involved in price negotiations and briefly discuss rule-based mechanism exemplifying Dutch Auction

Abstract: Centralized yellow pages-based approach is one of well-known methods of facilitating resource discovery in distributed systems. Due to its conceptual simplicity, it became our choice in two recent research projects: agent-based model e-commerce system and agent system for resource brokering in a grid. It is the latter project that is used as a background to study efficient ways of implementing agent-based yellow page service. Results of actual experiments provide us with guidelines how to maximize its throughput.

Abstract: Recently, we have proposed a comprehensive agent-based e-commerce system. While UML formalized, it lacked details how basic functions - e.g. user request to purchase a given product - are to be implemented. Furthermore, the "airline ticket reservation model" used in the system involves time management issues that have not been addressed. The aim of the paper is to discuss the way in which the information flow and data transformations involved in it are to be implemented; assuming that information about products is to be ontologically represented. Furthermore, a simple way in which time information can be successfully managed to support the proposed product reservation approach will be discussed

Abstract: Debugging agent systems is a challenging endeavor as they are complex, dynamic and error-prone. While the notion of debugging can be understood in a broad context, our aim was to crate a debugging system which supports agent developers, who can be distributed across multiple locations, by letting them know what type of an error occurred and where it happened. The proposed system, Log4JADE, was implemented on top of JADE agent platform, and is based on a commonly-used Log4j library.

Abstract: Agent oriented programming is often claimed to become the next breakthrough in development and implementation of large-scale complex software systems. At the same time it is rather difficult to find successful applications of agent technology, in particular when large-scale systems are considered. The aim of this paper is to investigate if one of the possible limits could be the scalability of existing agent environments. For this purpose we have selected JADE agent platform and investigated its performance in a number of test-scenarios. Results of our experiments are presented and discussed.

Abstract: Further development of the World Wide Web depends on the existence of data stored in a machine-consumable format. This in turn requires the design of domain ontologies, the availability of information described with these ontologies, and agents for exploiting this information. In this paper we describe our attempt at designing travel ontology and illustrate how our ontology can be used not only to store data in an agent-based travel support system, but also to support delivery of personalized content to users.

Abstract: In order for software agent technology to come to full fruition, it must be integrated in a realistic way with existing production technologies. In this paper we address one of the interesting problems of real-world agent integration: the interaction between agents and non-agents. The proposed solution is designed to provide non-agents (client software in particular) access to agent services, without restricting the capabilities of agents providing them.

Abstract: This paper describes our efforts to semantically describe travelrelated documents on the Internet. We focus on the areas of lodging and gastronomy, with allowance for further expansion into other aspects of the world of travel. Based on an analysis of currently-available data, we develop hotel ontology. Furthermore, we explicitly define an ontology for the Chefmoz project data, which has no official schema. Finally, we sketch a way to combine these two ontologies for use in an integrated travel framework.

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to address the problem of user profile initialization in a travel support system. In the system under consideration, ontologically demarcated data is stored in a central repository, while user profiles are functionalized as instances of travel object ontologies. Creation of an initial user profile is achieved through stereotyping. An example of utilization of this technique, in the case of restaurant stereotypes, is presented.
