Medical Image Processing
Last Friday, Dr Bill Russell gave us a very nice seminar on the medical image processing.
At first, Dr Russell introduced the 3-D imaging and ultrasound, propagation of sound, 2-D ultrasound reflection.
Then Dr Russell presented some concepts related to the main topic: assessment of fetal size, biparietal diameter, femur length, abdominal circumference, color flow Doppler ultrasound, etc.
Then Dr Russel introduced the wide beam scanning which can produce 3D effect and can be sector transducer, and digital sequence of images.
Then Dr Russel introduced the 3D ultrasound advantage and disadvantage, and 2D to 3D reconstruction which is inexpensive, high accuracy, free hand scanning, and conventional 2D ultrasound.
Then Dr Russel presented the ultrasound scanning picture: 3-D fetal legs. Then he introduced the nuclear magnetic resonance, and NMR.
Dr Russel then presented the MRI hardware overview: super-conducting magnet, MRI magnet, belt, gradient coil, surface coil, bird cage coil, multi-slice imaging, chemical shift imaging. Then he introduced the functional MRI, basic fMRI and activation, visual stimulation and visualization of fMRI.
At last, Dr Russell introduced the visible human projects and lots of pictures.
