Approximations of Continuous Functions by Clement Operators

ABSTRACT

We present some basic theory on the approximation of continuous functions by positive linear operators and apply it to the convergence and the convergence rate analysis for a sequence of Clement operators first introduced by Clement in 1975 and re-constructed independently by Ding in 1990 as piecewise linear Markov finite approximations. This work is joint with Dr. Zizhong Wang and the resulting paper will appear on the journal of Stochastic Analysis and Applications.
