ABSTRACT

The introductory lecture is geared to provide a broad mix of information on using the integrated Unix computing environment at USM effectively and efficiently in scientific computing research. Topics will include compilers, scientific libraries, utilities, scripts and machine environments and resources.

The discussion will conclude with a brief discussion on producing a thesis and the use of TeX, LaTeX and AMSTeX (including image manipulation) and other word processing options. While the talk is aimed primarily at the newer students, the depth of coverage will include items of interest to more seasoned users.
