ABSTRACT

Solution of systems of nonlinear equations is a relatively complicated problem for which a number of different approaches have been proposed. Various commercial and non-commercial software packages have been and are being developed for solving specific and general types of problems. In order to test new software or to choose an existing solver, it is necessary to have relevant test problems. A high quality test set is an essential when monitoring the performance of the solver and method. We shall show a comparison between several solvers and methods when applied to a number of test problems. A discussion of the properties of the solvers and the interrelationship between the solvers and the test problems will be presented.
