SC740 SEMINAR WEEK 15

TOPIC: Computer Simulation Modeling of Electrophoretic Deposition

By Dr. Ras B. Pandey

Department of Physics and Astronomy

University of Southern Mississippi

Summary and Comments: By Lee Emmanwori

Dr. Pandey introduced the concepts of conformation and dynamics as the fundamental issues in polymer simulations. He gave a brief overview of computer simulation methods such as lattice and off-lattice.

Dr. Pandey spent a great portion of his presentation on a computer simulation model for electrophoretic deposition which addressed:

- how the polymer density evolve at or near the surface,

- how the polymer density depend on the molecular weight, temperature, and driving field.

He also explained how conformational crossover occur from bulk-to-surface.

In the framework of the fundamental issues in interfacial dynamics, Dr. Pandey presented evidence against widely accepted superuniversality in favor of nonuniversal scaling for the spread of polymer chains.
