(Description of Seminar 14)
Dec. 2, 1997
On last wednesday, Dr. Hugh Garraway gave us a lecture about Midi Protocol, Applications, and Physical Modeling Synthesis. Dr. Hugh Garraway is a professor of Department of Computer Science and Statistics, University of Southern Mississippi.
Dr. Garraway first told us about the history of electronic music. He introduced Theremin who first created and used electronic music at 1919. Dr. Garraway also introduced the Switched-on Bash, W. carlos, Moog's Synthesizer.
Synthesizer is an electronic device for making music sounds. MIDI is Music Instrument Digital Interface. MIDI is defined at 1983. It is standard protocol used in the electronic music.
Then, Dr. Garraway described the hardware and software protocol standardization used in Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI). After that Dr. Garraway gave an introduction to physical modeling synthesis.
In this seminar, Dr. Garraway show us a lot of examples of using some software and hardware, and some instruments. He played the instruments and I have lots of fun in this seminar. Thanks Dr. Garraway for his excelent presentation.
