MIDYEAR EVALUATION
Evaluation 1:
-
Good about course – Discussion, ideas and the information
that we get.
-
Bad about the course – Very long (4 hours about), but it is
necessary, so what the heck.
-
Need more – Breaks, at least 2 I think, or we should get out
early.
-
Need less – I think that nothing is needed; it’s OK as
it is.
Evaluation 2:
-
Is entertaining (lively discussions).
-
Need more guideline concerning class project and syllabus.
-
Not really quite sure what is expected of me.
-
What’s testable?
Evaluation 3:
-
Good – Open discussions on current topics that actually
affect us directly or indirectly.
-
Bad – Too much outside research. Too late in the
evening.
-
More – Polish food.
-
Less – Outside research.
Evaluation 4:
-
The scheduled time of this class is bad. 10:00 p.m. is too
late to be in a lecture.
-
The lectures tend to jump from point to point with a lot of points
given which appear at face value to be interesting, but have very
little to do with the subject of the lecture. Sometimes the
subject of the lecture is not very clear.
-
Case studies are excellent. The THERAC-25 assignment had well
developed ethical lessons and was worth the work. This course
could be better if more were used.
Evaluation 5:
-
1 – The discussion of ideas that I have never have thought
too much about is good.
-
2 – I think it is good that you state your political
viewpoint so that the perspective that you are coming from is
known.
-
3 – I think there should be more case studies
-
4 – More stories.
Evaluation 6:
-
Good about course – Have learned about databases, and where
computers are taking us.
-
Bad – Too many opinions; everyone has opinions; no one is
right or wrong; no win or lose; your society would be better off
without them.
-
More of – More hands on; hard facts
-
Less of in class – Opinions…what if this, what if
that. We all know what assumptions to for everyone.
Evaluation 7:
-
Good – Not a typical computer class. More of a cross
between philosophy and current technology.
-
Bad – Too much busy work.
Evaluation 8:
-
The good thing about this course is the instructor and his
enthusiasm.
-
I do not like the length of this class. It last too long.
-
I wouldn’t change anything about his class.
Evaluation 9:
-
I like this course because interesting material. The
instructor is enthusiastic about the material.
-
Some of the stuff doesn’t seem very relevant.
-
I don’t like the late hours of the course.
-
Not quiet sure what is going to be on the final. Wish we had
more direction on what we need to know.
Evaluation 10:
-
The best part of this course is Dr. “P”, who has a
tremendous amount of energy and is eager to teach in such a
“cool” way that makes me want to come to class every
Wednesday.
-
The teaching methods are definitely unorthodox and that’s
what makes it interesting. It’s definitely a good thing
and nothing should be changed.
Evaluation 11:
-
Good – Have learned a lot about social issues and extra
cultures like in Poland, and sidebits that the instructor gives
out. It has bee a good class (so far).
-
Bad – Hard to do group projects. I have just been told
I have to come up on Friday. This is BAD!
-
Like to see more – Discuss more real life ethical situations.
-
Like to see less – Homework, long nights.
Evaluation 12:
-
I like the application of real world issues in the class. I
also like hearing and thinking about how other countries approach
issues.
-
The only thing I dislike is that I am not sure how I should be
preparing for the final.
-
I would like to see more class discussion. This is a great
way to really think about the ethics of current issues. I
also like also like being informed about other topics.
-
A debate may be nice. And then switch sides half way through.
That way we would have to defend and promote both sides before
making our final decision.
Evaluation 13:
-
What’s good – The Discussion! Laid-back
atmosphere. This is the most comfortable class I have ever
taken (you are very funny and helpful for us to understand what we
will experience in the future). You are extremely
intelligent!
-
What’s bad – Huge assignments that are assigned, and
due in one week. Ex.: Website construction, 4 work
sheets in a row (small print reading). NOT KNOWING IF THE
FINAL EXAM IS GONNA KILL US ALL.
-
What you want more – Media, all types, movies, pictures,
whatever! Possibly, a guest speaker from some
corporate-America company, not afraid to “vent”
about the ethical crimes he or she has experienced.
-
What you want less – Long homework.
Evaluation 14:
-
Good – The lectures are interesting enough to keep me awake
for 2 ½ hours. Also, the points made seem relevant to
potential situations I the C. S. field.
-
Bad – 2 hours and forty minutes followed by long drive home.
-
Although more tests may be better to spread out the grading, I like
the way it is now.
Evaluation 15:
-
I like how we are not following the book directly. I do,
however, think that the worksheets are appropriate homework.
-
I do not like the fact that we have only 1 test, the final, because
there is absolutely no telling what it will cover.
-
I also like the idea of developing web sites for our projects.
-
I don’t like the 3 hour class. It is just way too long.
Evaluation 16:
-
Good – Class is entertaining (keeps me awake). Good
discussions.
-
Bad – No breaks. No clue about the final exam.
Evaluation 17:
-
I particularly enjoy and would like to see more of the specific,
real-world examples and anecdotes given in class of social issues,
and the direction technology is taking our society.
-
I would like to see less emphasis on updating and building web
sites.
Evaluation 18:
-
This course is pretty interesting. It talks about many
different technologies, old and new, and their effect on society
and the different issues.
-
The bad thing about this course is that it gets too boring.
-
It should be on a Friday if it is going to be a 3 hour class and a
little earlier.
-
If it stays the same, then more breaks are appreciated.
Evaluation 19:
-
I like your personality.
-
More about Now Technology and the CS issues.
-
More about issues on different societies.
-
Keep the free and open political views.
Evaluation 20:
-
One good thing about the class is that it isn’t boring.
-
One bad thing about the course is that it seems like the lectures
could be condensed to about an hour if they were more focused.
-
I would like to have more in-class group work and discussion.
-
I would like to have less lecture in the class.
Evaluation 21:
-
Good – I think everything in this course is good. This
is the best course I had so far at OSU.
-
Bad – We should meet two or three times a week instead of
once for 3 freaking hours.
Evaluation 22:
-
Good so far – I love the current event topics discussed.
-
Bad – Class is long.
-
I would like to see more class discussion. More technical
articles/issues would also be nice.
Evaluation 23:
-
The good part of this course is class discussion. I believe
discussion is the best way to learn, and not fall asleep.
-
The bad part of this course is the presentation with
partners. I believe it would be better to do them separately.
-
More discussion.
-
Less homework.
Evaluation 24:
-
This course is very interesting and keeps you thinking.
-
The presentations are one of the things I don’t like about
this course and grading is a little difficult to understand.
-
As an instructor you make this class very lively.
Evaluation 25:
-
Good – The course is interesting and I enjoy a lot of the
discussions we have.
-
Bad – Sometimes the material is very boring and it’s
hard to pay attention.
-
Want more – There’s not much you could add. Maybe
more handouts or some visuals.
-
Want less – Less of the book.
Evaluation 26:
-
Good – Current events, stories, most topics of discussion.
-
Bad – Some topics, i.e. the really hard to study bland ethics
with no stories for background.
-
Want more – Stories like the super worms.
Evaluation 27:
-
Good – In class discussion.
-
Bad – Lack of standard grading system. Need ability to
know what I’m making now.
-
Less of – Emphasis on web sites, non-CS students don’t
have HTML skills and are therefore disadvantaged.
-
More of – ? I like what I see right now. Good
class altogether.
Evaluation 28:
-
The course so far has been interesting and entertaining. Dr.
P has good presentation, interesting ideas, a hit to the left.
-
You should watch more fair and balanced news such as Fox instead of
the totally biased CNN.
-
Less homework.
Evaluation 29:
-
I like how this course ties very well with real life.
-
However, I would like to hear all subjects even if groups may be
discussing these topics in their projects.
-
I really can’t think of what I would like more of. As
stated previously it relates well to real life.
