Dr. Jan W. Owsiñski, born 1948 in Gdañsk, Poland.

• Married, three children.
• Also employed at the Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
• Executive editor of the English-language scientific quarterly Control & Cybernetics.
• Together with Professor Zbigniew Nahorski manages the international working group MODEST - MODelling of Economies and Societies in Transition, affiliated with the EURO chapter of IFORS, the International Federation of Operation Research Societies, and with IFAC, the International Federation of Automatic Control.
• Published some 120 papers, mostly in English, and edited 11 volumes, all of them in English.
• Headed numerous research and applications projects in the domain of socio-economic modelling and data analysis.
• Speaks and writes fluently in English, French and Russian, and communicates in German (to say nothing about Polish).
