Abstract:
The book presents the nonparametric method of statistical kernel estimators, which enables the
convenient calculation and graphic illustration of characteristics of a random variable distribution,
without knowing the class of distributions to which it belongs. Although the concept of kernel estimators
is natural and simple, and its interpretation lucid, their practical use is impossible without using
appropriate computer technology, a fact which - until recently - significantly hindered theoretical, and
especially applicational research.
The book is intended for a broad range of readers applying data analysis and statistical methods to
different contemporary scientific and practical problems. Primarily, complete procedures are given,
allowing for desired results to be obtained without going into the theoretical aspects of the task under
investigation. The presented material was illustrated by problems from widely understood systems
analysis, as well as numerous computational examples. This helps in the understanding and application of
the described methodology by persons without a strictly mathematical background, treating statistics and
data analysis rather as tools in their varied research in engineering, econometrics, sociology, biomedicine
and other related areas.
